Executives officials, and staff assistants was the biggest segment gainer, up 4.29% in mid-July from one year ago, and also up 0.69% from June.
But all other categories lost ground from the previous month, though all also advanced from levels of one year ago.
Transportation-train and engine employment fell 1.17% from a month ago, though gaining 2.02% year-over year. Transportation (other than train and engine) fell nearly as much, 1.15%, from a month ago, gaining 1.02% year over year. Professional and administrative employment fell 1.03% from mid-June, gaining a scant 0.01% from a year ago.
Maintenance-of-way employment slipped 0.38% from mid-June, though up 2.06% from July 2011; Maintenance-of-equipment-and-stores fell even less, 0.28%, from mid-June, logging a comparable 2.03% gain from levels of one year ago.
