CSX taps Avtec for console contract

Avtec Inc. said Friday it and CSX Transportation have entered into a multiyear, multimillion dollar contract to migrate all of CSX's mainline dispatching centers to Avtec's Scout pure-IP radio console with Enterprise Management capabilities.

"The project will culminate in hundreds of console positions controlling over 1,000 RoIP (Radio over Internet Protocol) radio base stations in 23 states, Washington D.C., and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec," Avtec said. Specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Gilbert, S.C.-based Avtec, Inc. provides Internet Protocol (IP) dispatch console services for the transportation, public safety, utility, business, and government markets.
