Caltrain said late Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, it had activated its real-time departure system, available in three locations on its website.

Caltrain said the real-time system uses Global Positioning System technology already on Caltrain locomotives, combined with a rail operating control system to determine train departure times.

A box on the right hand side of the home page allows users to select a station and see departure times for the next three north- and southbound trains. The information is in a "countdown" format. Departure times for individual stations are displayed on the "station" page, which can be found under the "station" menu.

A mobile-friendly web interface option for smartphones or tablets also is available.

To assist current and potential riders in becoming better acquainted with the system, a list of "Frequently-Asked-Questions" also is offered.
