Riddett takes the reins at RailWorks

Kevin Riddett has been appointed President and CEO of RailWorks Corp. effective Oct. 10, 2016.

New Jersey officials reauthorized the state's Transportation Trust Fund at $2 billion a year for the next eight years.

Gross & Janes Co. announced Sept. 8, 2016 that it has received a United States Patent for a “two-step” borate pre-treatment dipping process and related equipment the company developed to increase the life of wood railroad crossties.

Officials on opposite sides of the country outlined plans to enhance safety of local rail systems using recently awarded federal funds.

The government of Canada and the province of Ontario reached an agreement that makes C$2.97 billion (US$2.3 billion) in combined funding available for infrastructure improvements in the province.

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) allocated $814 million to 135 transportation projects in the state and includes $55 million to four rail and safety projects.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has $7 million in grants available to support efforts that enhance the safety of transit workers and passengers.

Eleven projects across six states and the District of Columbia will receive grants from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to assist in the implementation of Positive Train Control (PTC).

In memoriam: Robert R. Kiley

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) fifth and longest-serving chairman, Robert R. Kiley, died Tuesday at the age of 80.

Norfolk Southern believes it has the answer to what efficiency looks like: Cleaner-running locomotives; greater energy efficiency; support for safer communities; fewer workplace injuries and a more diverse workforce.
