X Train hires HR director

Las Vegas Railway Express, Inc., hired Vicki DiBernardo as human resources director to head up the task of hiring, training and preparing the new employees for the X Train, which will need a team of approximately 100 employees to begin planned operations at the end of this year.
The demand for public transportation rose last year as Americans took 10.5 billion trips, the second highest ridership since 1957, and 154 million more trips than the previous year, according to a report released today by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). McKinstry: Cold Train shrinks carbon footprint

Seattle-based energy and facility services firm McKinstry released a carbon analysis study confirming that the Cold Train refrigerated express intermodal service to/from the Port of Quincy Intermodal Terminal produces a smaller carbon footprint than shipping by long-haul truck to/from Quincy, Wash. The report validates a previous estimation of carbon emissions reported by BNSF's Carbon Estimator Tool.

CTA seeks builder for 7000 series cars

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is seeking manufacturers for a brand-new generation of rail cars, the 7000 series, continuing the agency's efforts to modernize the transit system to improve service and benefit customers.
PBF Energy Inc. announced today the completion of the second crude oil unloading facility at its subsidiary's Delaware City refinery. The construction of the 70,000 barrel per day (bpd) rail facility was announced in mid-2012 and was completed on schedule and on budget.

Bombardier wins new AirTrain contract

Bombardier Transportation announced Friday that it has signed a contract with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to provide operations and maintenance services for the AirTrain system at Newark Liberty International Airport for a further 10 years. The contract, which includes a capital asset improvement program, is valued at approximately $243 million and becomes effective Aug. 2.
