The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) published the final environmental document on the Southwest Light Rail Transit Project (Metro Green Line Extension) in Minneapolis-St. Paul, marking a major step closer to realization of the $1.79 billion project.

The Pennsylvania State Transportation Commission on May 13, 2016 approved $36 million for 31 rail projects across 34 counties.

Union Pacific will spend $78.6 million improving its infrastructure in Nebraska this year. The planned spend is on top of the $200 million the railroad invested in its infrastructure in the state between 2011 and 2015.

FTA tightens safety screws on WMATA

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on May 7, 2016 issued an “urgent safety directive” to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) just one day after the agency released a plan aimed at improving safety and maintenance on its Metrorail system.

In a bid to make good on a promise to promote community engagement for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Expansion Project, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo laid out plans for public meetings, launched a new website and committed to expedited grade crossing improvements.
